When Microgaming released the Hellboy slot I didn't pay it much attention to be honest. It wasn't a brand I was particularly familiar with and I've never been a fan of comic-book style games even if they are adult-aimed. But then a mate of mine was on MSN commentating on this amazing session he was having on the slot so I thought I better check it out. It's now one of my favourite Microgaming slot games!
Hellboy bears siilarities in gameplay on the previously release Tombraider 2 slot from Microgaming (both slot games are available as Instant Play of Download games at 32Red Casino, Roxy Palace and Ladbrokes). It has a randomly awarded feature called "Supermode" where you get extra wild symbols across the reels during 10 free spins plus it also has an "Underworld" feature trigerred by three Hellboy Fist symbols anywhere in view.
During the Underworld Bonus you traverse a series of underground tunnels picking up rewards as you go with the ultimate aim of finding the ultimate reward, the "Relic Of Power" hidden in the "Chamber Of Fire". Of the two features in the Hellboy slot I prefer the Supermode because I simply prefer the potentially unlimited rewards of a free spins bonus.
If you have never played Hellboy (or Tombraider 2 for that matter) then I would definitely check them out. They are low/medium volatility slot games and while I have never walked away with much from TR 2, the Hellboy slot is a different story. I've had some really good wins here on a par with the Hitman slot which can also be rewarding. Whether Hellboy has longevity I am undecided. I think that largely comes down to whether or not you like the graphic/sound theme more than the gameplay in this case.
